چکیده

PURPOSE To present the experience in patient dose management and the development of an online audit tool for digital radiography. MATERIALS AND METHODS Several tools have been developed to extract the information contained in the DICOM header of digital images, collect radiographic parameters, calculate patient entrance doses and other related parameters, and audit image quality. RESULTS The tool has been used for mammography, and includes images from over 25,000 patients, over 75,000 chest images, 100,000 computed radiography procedures and more than 1,000 interventional radiology procedures. Examples of calculation of skin dose distribution in interventional cardiology based upon information of DICOM header and the results of dosimetric parameters for cardiology procedures in 2006 are presented. CONCLUSION Digital radiology has great advantages for imaging and patient dose management. Dose reports, QCONLINE systems and the MPPS DICOM service are good tools to optimise procedures and to manage patient dosimetry data. The implementation of the ongoing IEC-DICOM standard for patient dose structured reports will improve dose management in digital radiology.

Patient effective dose evaluation for chest X-ray examination in three digital radiography centers

Background: The radiation doses resulting from diagnostic X-ray examinations are routinely measured in terms of entrance surface dose (ESD) and effective dose (ED). In this study, for the purpose of radiation protection, the radiation doses received from Digital chest X-ray examination were evaluated in terms of ESD and ED. Material and Methods: The ED was calculated by using the MCNP ...

Effective Dose Evaluation of Critical Organes in Digital Radiography Exames

Background and Aim: Due to the increasing number of radiographic tests, TLD dosimeters can be used to measure the effective dose of critical organs in various radiographic tests. In this research, the progression of analogue to digital radiology devices, which facilitates and accelerates the performance of radiographs, especially emergency patients, was investigated, and then the effective dose...

A Comparison of Patients Absorption Doses with Bone Deformity Due to the EOS Imaging and Digital Radiology

Background: This study has aimed to measure the patient dose in entire spine radiography by EOS system in comparison with the digital radiography. Methods: EOS stereo-radiography was used for frontal and lateral view spine imaging in 41 patients in a prospective analytical study. A calibrated dose area product (DAP) meter was used for calibration of the DAP in EOS system. The accuracy and pr...

A Phantom Study for the Optimization of Image Quality and Radiation Dose for Common Radiographic Examinations in Digital Radiography

Introduction: Phantom studies facilitate the implementation of radiation dose surveillance as a function of radiographic technical parameters for minimizing patient radiation dose. The evidence of such investigations can then be used to evaluate technical parameters used in the radiographic procedures to reduce radiation dose without compromising the image quality. Material and Methods: This ex...

Effects of Kilovoltage on Image Quality and Entrance Surface Dose in Lumbar Spine Digital Radiography

Introduction: Digital radiography possesses a wide dynamic range and has a major advantage in producing an acceptable image of diagnostic value even though overexposure occurs. Lumbar spine (LS) radiography is the most common examinations that gives high radiation dose to patients and accounts for the highest collective population dose of any conventional radiographic ...
